Today is International Day of the Midwife so of course, celebrating the midwives in my community (and not in my community) is a must!
Midwives have been supporting and guiding birthers for thousands of years, even being referenced in ancient Greek and Roman texts as well as in the Bible. Midwives were the primary care for all birthers until 1762, when after learning from midwives, doctors started to establish obstetric practices.
Midwives today not only catch babies, they care for pregnant people more intimately. They ground us when we’re unsteady. They share our happiness and joy when our babies reach our arms. They cry with us when we shatter. They remind us that we, in fact, do have the strength to pick ourselves up and move forward. They give us space to exist just as we are.
They are more than just a care provider…they’re midwives.
Happy International Day of the Midwife to every midwife I’ve worked with, birthed with, know, or don’t know. You make the world go round. You are so appreciated and loved. Thank you for the much-needed work you do.

These are all stunning! I am so grateful for midwifery care and the impact it has had on my own life.
Wow this is such a beautiful tribute! The way each of these midwives has served birthing people is so powerful! I’m sure these midwives love having photos of them at work too!
Wow! What an incredible set of images! I’m sure these folks are so happy to have you as a part of their community! Also, love that midwife cooking in the garage!!
